MSE – Special Education

  • Which classes do you teach online?

SPED 760, Behavior Analysis and Intervention

  • Why did you start teaching?

I started teaching at the graduate level because there is a huge need for high-quality teachers for students with disabilities. I wanted to be part of developing teachers for these unique and diverse learners.

  • What advice would you give to prospective students?

Be sure to plan time each week for your studies, as the flexibility provided by online learning can become a nemesis without deliberately creating a structure for yourself.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know.

I'm a native of Iowa and currently live in Duluth, Minnesota with my husband, Jay, and miniature schnauzer, Liebchen (which in German means "darling or sweetheart"). In my free time I enjoy experiencing the great outdoors. Health and exercise—including Nordic skiing, mountain biking, and hiking—are of foremost importance. Over the years I've also cared for and trained dogs, which has brought me a great sense of satisfaction and enjoyment.
