The ultimate goal for my classes is to have students reach their own personal learning objectives through our guided experiences. Ultimately we want to make sure that all of the activities we participate in are meaningful and useful for professional practice.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I come from a family of teachers! There was never another option! I truly love this profession, and it is part of my "core."

  • What advice would you give to prospective students?

To follow your heart to your career path. Don't be afraid to admit to yourself if you need to make a change. The possibilities are truly endless, and it is important to love what you do each day.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in education?

Having an open mind and the ability to divert from plans as needed. There are endless times during the school day that require us to be flexible and quickly change plans. Another quality is to be student-focused above all else.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that teachers face today?

One of the biggest challenges that I see for teachers today is trying to find the balance between useful integration of technology into the classroom while still engaging students. It has become increasingly difficult to compete for student attention with technology, but we can use it in an integrated way to help complement our lessons.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

"Tao Te Ching" (A book of ancient Chinese Philosophy)

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know.

    • I love yoga—over the summer I took 15 classes in one week!
    • I am obsessed with travel. I have already visited 24 countries and can't wait to add more to the list.
    • I was raised by a family of teachers, and being thrifty was part of the culture. It is really rare if I pay for something without using a coupon.
